A Little About Me

¡Hola!

I’m Bonita, and this is my blog. You can probably tell by my banner that I’m a geek with a healthy (or not so healthy) obsession with Star Wars. It all started a long time ago in a movie theater far, far away…as I watched a blond farm boy stare out across a desert plain while the twin suns of his planet set and the orchestral majesty of John Williams’ music crescendoed through the speakers.

Sigh.

It was the most magical moment of my six-year-old self’s life. And it was that moment  — coupled with the desire to be Rita Moreno from West Side Story and Bruce Lee in Enter the Dragon —  that spurred me on to a life in the arts.

That was it. I was going to be in the movies. Make movies. Create stories and make magic! (Oh, and become an ass-kicking ninja/Jedi Master along the way.)

Fast forward into the future…

I got my degree in theatre before turning my attention to Los Angeles. I cut my teeth working in “the Biz” as an assistant and PA. I worked both behind the camera and in front of the camera. I’ve written film scripts, produced and even co-authored an urban fantasy series called The Werewolf Whisperer.  All the while managing to obtain a tiny bit of ninjaness (I hold a black belt in Kickboxing-MMA and have a background in Jeet Kune Do and Kali-Eskrima).

I’ve pursued my goals. Achieved some. Still working toward others. But I never lost my love of movies, my passion for storytelling or my desire to make magic.

I hope you enjoy perusing my geeky musings on movies, books and martial arts (my three favorite things…outside of a tasty burger). And holler back with musings or recommendations of your own.
